After 12 long years, the developer label behind the Sims franchise closes its doors.

Maxis Studio is set to close down their doors as hinted by Guillaume Pierre, one of the company’s game designers. In his statement via Twitter, Pierre says that “it’s time to turn off the lights and put the key under the door.”  bading goodbye to 12 years of being one of EA’s development labels behind The Sims, Sim City and Spore.

The shutdown is said to be due to the not-so-good performance of recently released titles, The Sims 4 and the online reboot of Sim City. There is no news yet as to what would happen with the recently released The Sims 4, who is bound to have its expansion pack this coming April, although it can be noted that the The Sims series is handled by a separate development team called The Sims Studio.
