We tested out the new SSD from Transcend and see if it can performer better than the rest of the new SSD in the market.
Getting a fast storage drive is an important part in any computers, aside from having massive storage, a reliable and quick reading storage drives can lessen the time wasted in any productivity work. Now most brands are releasing Solid State Drives that promised fast read and write speeds on their drives, which is becoming an essential for PC users to use for their primary drives as compared with the hard disk drives. Now Transcend, known for their memory cards, is joining the SSD line up with one of their newest SSD models; the SSD370S. We will test out the SSD370S to see if what they advertise if in fact real.
Let us first check out the SSD370S’ specs:
Capacity | 32GB, 64GB, 128GB, 256GB, 512GB, 1TB |
Size | 100mm x 69.85mm x 6.8mm (3.94″ x 2.75″ x 0.28″) |
Weight | 63g (2.22 oz) |
Storage Media | Synchronous MLC NAND Flash memory |
Operating Voltage | DC 5V |
Operating Temperature | 0°C (32°F) to 70°C (158°F) |
There is nothing fancy with the looks of the SSD, with a similar size that from your typical 2.5 inch laptop hard drives with the exception of the aluminum body to protect the storage drive, not to mention the SSD370S is rather lightweight. The package also includes a 3.5 inch bracket that lets you mount the SSD on the 3.5 inch hard drive bay in your PC, or if you have the newer models of PC, you can attach the drive in the dedicated SSD storage bay with ease.
As for the case of its performance, the Transcend SSD370S promised to have around 500 Mbps for reading speed and 400Mbps for writing speed, so we conducted some tests to determine the speed of the Solid State Drive. We put the drive in a series of tests with Crystal Disk Mark and HD Tune and even the conventional file transfer with the TeraCopy file transfer app. Unfortunately the expected speed of the SSD was not the same as it was originally advertised, as the results showed that it has an average of around 240Mbps of reading speed and 220Mbps. However the results are still exceptional for an SSD as we tried testing its capabilities and it can managed to transfer around 70 GB full of hundreds of videos in a matter of just 8 minutes. As far as for the temperature during intense data transfers, the SSD370S can handle it pretty well, with just around 24-28 degrees when idle and can go around 40 degrees when transferring large amount of files.
So far the Transcend SSD370S is a great SSD, it also features different range of capacity sizes depending to your budget and liking. It may not be one of the fastest SSD, but its pricing is already enough to convince you that this is a good choice for your PC rig.
