Ito ang liga, oh-woah-ohh.

Japanese broadcasting company TV Asahi, owner of All-Nippon News and known home of popular shows such as DoraemonGaoGaiGar, Yu-Gi-Oh!, Kamen Rider, After War Gundam X and Mobile Suit Gundam Unicorn has been reported to be working with Philippine based development and animation studio Synergy88 for an anime titled called Barangay 143.

As the title suggests, the show is presumably playing around the idea of Barangay (noted as the smallest administrative division here in the Philippines) basketball leagues and, according to its featured banner, will feature 9 main characters forming the show’s central basketball team.

The anime title can also be related to Synergy88’s mobile game called Barangay Basketball whose location setting is also called Barangay 143. TV Asahi is reported to handle design areas such as Character concepts while Synergy88 will take over the scriptwriting and production jobs with the show aiming to air prime-time on a still undisclosed channel.

While co-created by a Philippine-based Software Development and Animation company and obviously targeted for the Filipino audience give its title, there is no clear information just yet if Barangay 143 will exclusively or initially air in the Philippines albeit it is stated that the anime title will soon expand its reach to the rest of South East Asia.
