And guess what, it’s Mecha! Well, obviously.

The name behind the titanic Gundam franchise, and as well as other iconic Mecha anime shows just unveiled their newest mecha anime project for 2018 titled Hoshi to Tsubasa no Paradox/Starwing a.k.a Starwing Paradox.

It’s not Gundam

Despite the call of its fans to release a new Gundam series that’s not Build Fighters (and perhaps new episodes for Gundam Thunderbolt), Sunrise is looking to welcome 2018 with a brand new project featuring recognized talents in the anime industry.

The character design will be handled by Yoshiyuki Sadamoto of the Evangelion franchise, with the looks and feel of the mechas to be designed by Ippei Gyobu of Mobile Suit Gundam: Iron-Blooded Orphans, and Junya Ishigaki of After War Gundam X. The main voice cast will include  Mikako Komatsu, Ryoko Shiraishi and Ayaka Suwa with the screenplay to be written by Yoichi Kato.

Based on the rough translation of the story brief posted in its official website, Starwing Paradox will take place on a distant planet which has become home to a power showdown between human and alien races with the mecha design features to highlight a dual pilot system, quite similar to what we’re getting accustomed to with other recent mecha themed shows, anime or non-anime.

More information regarding Starwing Paradox should be made available soon, and the show is expected to launch sometime between Q2 or Q3 of this year.
