How to Record High Quality Gameplay Videos That Look Great

Nowadays recording gameplay videos is a whole lot easier, and there are lots of user-friendly options that you could choose. However although it is easy to record the videos, making sure that their quality is beyond reproach and they look great can be challenging.

If you want to record high quality gameplay videos that really look impressive, there are several factors that you will want to consider.

Setting the Recording Parameters to Capture High Quality Videos

To make sure you record high quality videos, you will need to adjust the recording parameters. Typically there are two parameters that you need to look at, which are the:

  • Resolution in order to make sure your video looks crisp, clear, and with excellent definition. A higher resolution is better, though its impact won’t be as considerable if it exceeds the resolution that the game itself is running at.
  • Frame rate will determine how smooth and fluid the video looks – especially any motion that is in it (which in gameplay videos is normally lots). It should be set at 60 frames per second for the best quality videos.

It should be noted that setting the recording parameters higher in the manner outlined above will make the video file size larger. More importantly however it will require more processing power to record – which leads to the next factor.

Optimize the Game Performance and Graphics

Essentially your gameplay video will be a recording of what you see on your screen, so if your game performance suffers or its graphics quality is low – the video won’t look great. That is why it is important that you take steps to optimize the game performance and its graphics.

Ultimately your goal should be to adjust the graphics settings in your game to as high as possible without affecting the performance of the game itself too much – while recording. If the game starts to lag or stutter, you may need to lower the graphics settings to compensate.

Other steps may help to optimize the game performance as well, such as closing any unnecessary apps or background processes. As a last resort you may even want to upgrade some of your PC hardware, such as the graphics card and RAM, or switch to a Solid State Drive (SSD).

Another factor to consider is the software that you’re using to record the gameplay videos. As you can imagine you will need to be able to configure its recording parameters, and it will also help if it is resource-friendly. For example for video screen capture Mac you could use Movavi Screen Capture Studio for Mac.

Although there are other factors that may influence the quality of your gameplay videos and how impressive they look – the ones listed above are the best place to start. If you pay close attention and improve them, you should see that improvement firsthand in the videos that you record and can then make other optimizations as need be.
