Believe in the Darling that believes in you, FLY GUNDAM!

It’s been quite a week for mecha fans as a surprise collaboration from Studio Trigger and Gainax got revealed from out of nowhere with their plan to create the crossover work involving Studio Trigger’s Darling in the FRANXX and Gainax’ beloved Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann.

Despite being a relatively new animation studio, Studio Trigger, or to be more exact, Studio Trigger’s roots have had a long history with Gainax as its key founder Hiroyuki Imaishi worked with Gainax as, well, the Director for Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann and Key Animator for Gainax’ most iconic work, Neon Genesis Evangelion before leaving the company and forming an animation studio of his own with Masahiko Ōtsuka which we know today as Studio Trigger.

So what can we expect from this collaboration? Well, according to Imaishi it might have DitF’s main couple, Hiro and 02 interacting with Gurren Lagann’s Spirals after the events of DitF in which both Hiro and 02 turned into cosmic beings traveling the universe together. Also, it might be that Imaishi’s other upcoming Promare could trigger events that will lead to this collaboration, just so it would make sense once it’s out. That and, you know, big a** robots with human faces in space.

Why? BECAUSE TRIGGER THAT’S WHY!

Gundam turns 40!

On other big news this week, the icon that is Mobile Suit Gundam has just turned 40 early this week and Bandai and Sunrise has once again emphasized on the 5 projects that they are working on and will be launched from this point forward up until 2020 in relation to this event. First is the TV release of the Mobile Suit Gundam ORIGINS series which details the early life of the charismatic villain that is Char Aznable, a new Gundam Build Anime Series, new Plamo kits under the SD Gundam World Sangoku Soketsuden line, the movie adaptation of Mobile Suit Gundam: Hathaway’s Flash (MOAR UC WHOO!) and a theatrical movie for Gundam Reconguista in G (don’t ask us why).

Repeat after me (or else I’ll drop a colony over your house): G Reco is a good Gundam show.

Other than these 5 projects, Bandai and Sunrise seems to be also working on possible crossover work for various Gundam series called the BEYOND Project. Initially unveiled late last year, the BEYOND Project will have its works involve shows like Mobile Suit Gundam ORIGIN, Gundam Reconguista in G, Mobile Suit Gundam Unicorn, Mobile Suit Gundam Wing, Mobile Suit Gundam 00, Mobile Suit Gundam: IRON-BLOODED ORPHANS, Mobile Suit Z Gundam, and of course the OG Mobile Suit Gundam. Not a lot of info is being revealed in regards to how this project would go just yet, but, as usual, it will most likely not just involve new shows or films but perhaps other Gundam franchise related stuff such as Manga, Merchandise, and Plamo Kits as well.

And oh, speaking of merchanidse, Uniqlo’s Gundam clothing line has just been recently made available, and Seiko just recently revealed their line of Gundam watches so good luck to all our wallets.
