Time to put your MetroidVania skills to the test as the classics are coming to modern platforms.
Although a lot of people are putting hate on the new Konami especially after Kojima got booted, it is without a doubt that they were once one of the top dogs in the video game industry producing classic titles that gamers have come to love over the years. One of their most iconic ones being the CastleVania franchise which spawned more than 30 titles that spanned multiple platforms.
As the franchise celebrates its 33rd Anniversary, Konami has just revealed that an Anniversary Collection will be coming to the Nintendo Switch, and as well as on the PlayStation 4, PC and Xbox One. The collection will include 8 titles from the franchise, and when we say “classic” we mean classic as these titles are the ones that were released during the NES, SNES and Game Boy eras with the full lineup to include:
- CastleVania
- CastleVania II: Belmont’s Revenge
- CastleVania II: Simon’s Quest
- CastleVania: Bloodlines
- CastleVania III Dracula’s Curse
- CastleVania the Adventure
- Akumajō Special: Boku Dracula-kun (a.k.a Kid Dracula)
Classic CastleVania titles are well known for their difficulty, oftentimes confusing mechanics, soundtrack, and, of course, helping improve upon the Metroid formula which helped spawn a new genre of platforming called the “MetroidVania”. Konami’s CastleVania Anniversary collection will be available on the Switch, PS4, PC and Xbox One via digital download starting this May 16, 2019.
