It was an absolute Twitterstorm when NBA and 2K fans got a first look at the upcoming NBA 2K20 player ratings. One by one, the ratings were revealed during a live stream show via NBA 2K20’s Twitter account.

After the Toronto Raptors got crowned as the 2019 NBA Champions in one of the single-greatest playoffs runs in NBA history, both NBA and 2K fans eagerly wondered what that would mean for NBA 2K20. Much like how the past season went, a welcome turn of events unraveled an undeniable truth that brings new light into the game everyone all came to know and love. A light sorely needed to brighten up a dimmed down landscape of a predictable finals in the past few years. This same light showed us that there is no longer one ‘best player in the league’. That the game is Anyone’s Game. The biggest tell of this? LeBron James and Kawhi Leonard both surprisingly clocked in at 97 in a hotly debated tie for the 2020 top spot.

The first-year Raptors star and NBA Finals MVP Kawhi Leonard, completing one of the most impressive postseason runs in recent history and bringing home the Toronto Raptor’s first NBA title, proves legendary performances earns you legendary ratings. The unforeseen rise of The Claw ripped throughout the competition and broke old patterns. And yet, even with four-time NBA Most Valuable Player LeBron James not appearing in the finals for the first time in eight seasons, Kawhi remains right at LeBron’s heel with both superstars sharing the highest rating (97). Trailing right behind the duo standing at 96 are big guys Giannis Antetokounmpo, Kevin Durant and James Harden. Golden State Warrior star Stephen Curry got a solid 95. Of the group, the stakes were particularly high for Kawhi Leonard, Kevin Durant, and Stephen Curry after battling it out in the finals. Soon, NBA 2K20 fans will be able to dribble, dive and duke it out playing as their eternal fandom, making epic basketball moments last forever on slow-motion or repeat starting September 6, 2019 on PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo Switch and Windows.
