Bandai Namco Entertainment Asia announced the revival of Heihachi Mishima, the King of Iron Fist, in a new character reveal trailer that debuted at EVO 2024. Revealed as the next DLC character, Heihachi will return to the TEKKEN roster in Fall 2024. The DLC is the third since the launch of the game, bringing back fan-favorite characters including Eddy Gordo and Lidia Sobieska.
For the first time ever in TEKKEN history, TEKKEN 8 adds an entirely new chapter to its story mode, expanding on “The Dark Awakens” storyline, which continues the clash between the Kazama and Mishima families. “The Dark Awakens” story mode expansion will be available as a free update for all TEKKEN 8 players.
Additionally, an extensive collaboration with Nike, Inc. for TEKKEN 8 was also revealed, bringing the world’s largest athletic footwear and apparel brand into the legendary fighting game universe. The partnership encompasses digital in-game content coming this Fall including digital Nike Air Foamposite One sneakers inspired by Jin Kazama and Kazuya Mishima. Bandai Namco and Nike also made the surprise announcement that a limited-edition physical Nike Air Foamposite One ‘Kazuya Mishima’ was available for purchase for show attendees.
TEKKEN Project Director Katsuhiro Harada, TEKKEN 8 Game Director Kohei Ikeda, and TEKKEN Project Producer Michael Murray took to the stage to announce the collaboration with Nike. As a finale, Harada, Ikeda, and Murray were joined on stage by Juan Huerta, Senior Designer – Graphic Design at Nike, and the presenters pulled the ultimate mic drop. They dropped shoes, surprising fans by unveiling the physical Nike Air Foamposite One ‘Kazuya Mishima’ sneakers. The slick and shiny black sneakers, a clear stylish extension of the character who inspired them, were available in very limited quantities and could only be purchased via the Nike app by people geolocated as being at EVO. Bandai Namco and Nike will reveal more information this Fall on the ‘Nike x TEKKEN’ collaboration including planned in-game content.
Finally, the company also announced the location of the 2024 TEKKEN World Tour Finals, which will be held in Tokyo, Japan on 8 December 2024, with group stages for Global and Regional Leaderboards beginning 5 December.
