This year has been a really fun year for us here at Reimarufiles, as we’ve begun new partnerships with various companies to give us exclusive access (such as beta keys) and giveaways (well …more beta keys) for all our readers.

Aside from that, we’ve begun discovering how much of our content has been relevant to your interests: both as a Pinoy and as a gamer.

Geek Talk: The Brewrats

Published by Chad on October 26th, 2011 - in Feature, Geek Talk

Welcome back to Geek Talk; where we showcase people who are into gaming, anime, sci-fi and anything geeky. For this issue, we will be interviewing one of the well-known DJs in the local radio scene.  The Brewrats is one of the popular radio show that debuted last 2007, the crew consists of Angel Rivero (aka Erning), Tado Jimenez and Ramon Bautista; they are the guys from the famous underground show Strangebrew from the old UNTV channel 37. Their radio show moved to different stations and finally they are now part of  the DIG Radio lineup.

One cool thing about Angel and the gang is that they love video games, especially the classic games, also Angel has her own radio show that features anime and gaming. We were happy to become guests (along with the Back2Gaming team) on their show a couple of months back, and also were fortunate to score an interview with Angel Rivero and Ramon Bautista (Tado was not present at that time).

Letter Bee Letter Leak! Gaichuus and Me

Dear Mom,

Our encounters with these Gaichuus have drained most of our energy. It’s not easy to battle these giant insects because they are very powerful with their jeweled armors. The last one I’ve battled was a centipede, and it was such a challenge. Thankfully, we were able to win against it. I am focused on fighting these creatures just so I could deliver these letters and hopefully, find you along my quest. I can’t wait to meet you mom.

Love,

Lag

Marvel Vs Capcom 3 Character Wish List (Part 2)

Welcome back, for the second part of the Marvel vs Capcom 3 special feature, we will be now focusing on the Marvel characters that you wish to be on the upcoming 3rd installment of the very much famous versus series.
You can check the first part of the feature by clicking here.

But before we can continue, let’s take a look from a video post on Gametrailers.com on their predictions based on the teaser trailer of MvC3 on who’s in the roster, and it supposed to be around 30 characters in the game (and that’s a lot if you ask me)

And now to the serious part, my list of Marvels characters that should be in Marvel vs. Capcom 3:

Iron Fist
The Marvel roster needs a Martial Arts expert, so Iron Fist fits the line, give him martial arts like of attacks and super combos and he’s ready to go.

Professor Xavier
Now how can Prof. X be useful in a fighting game, two words: “Mind Control”, give the professor mind control attacks that stun enemies and some psionic blasts, and for an added bonus, he can transform into Onslaught as a super combo, neat huh?

Jean Grey (Phoenix)
Either the normal version or the dark version of the Phoenix will be nice. In case Prof. X is in the list, might as well make Jean Grey into the Phoenix for a more different telepath. Give her insane attacks similar to the comic books and full screen flaming super moves for some epic goodness.

The New Captain America
If you guys read the Civil War arc in the Marvel Comics, then you know that there’s a new Captain America in town(and he wields a gun!). Give this new Cap some of the classic moves and a some new ones for his trusty gun.

Spiderman (Black Symbiote costume)
Yep the other classic black costume, long before Venom was created, there’s the Black Spiderman. Some combination of Venom and the classic Spidey would be cool to see in this black version.

Spiderman (Civil War version)
Actually I picked two different versions of Spiderman for my wishlist. In the Civil War arc, Spiderman was originally on Tony Stark’s side before switching sides to Captain America, and at that time, Tony Stark gave Spidey a new costume with some new special tricks. It’s like a combination of Iron Man and Spiderman but much cooler.

Ultron
Of course the list won’t be complete without a supervillain. And a supervillian in a fighting game should be super powerful. Well we already have
Thanos, Doctor Doom and Magneto, so the next super badass villain should be no other than Ultron. This one hack of a indestructable machine will give any Capcom fighter a fight of their lives.

And this wraps up the 2-part Marvel cs. Capcom 3 wishlist special feature. Hope you all enjoy in this crazy predictions, and please be reminded that this is just a wishlist, it doesn’t guarantee that any of this will indeed appear in the upcoming fighting game.

Happy gaming…

Marvel Vs Capcom 3 Character Wish List (Part 1)

All of the gamer’s prayers have been answered, after decades of waiting and praying, one of the best fighting game of all time; Capcom Vs. Marvel has confirmed to get it’s third sequel, and an official announcement will be made on this coming May, sadly the supposed scheduled release was in 2011.

For now, only six characters was revealed: Ryu, Morrigan (Dark Stalkers) and Chris Redfield (Resident Evil) from the Capcom franchise and Wolverine, Iron Man (now in the Mark IV armor) and the Hulk for the Marvel franchise. No news on what will be t he new gameplay mechanics be, we’ll soon find out in the coming weeks (May is now a few days away)

Now players are predicting on who should be in the roster on Marvel Vs. Capcom 3, you can check some of the predictions on these sites:

And of course, Reimaru Files will also be making a MvC3 wishlist, and it’s a two-part feature.
For the first part, we’ll be making a wishlist of Capcom characters, *note: I’ll be making a wishlist of characters that haven’t made an appearance in any Capcom vs. franchise (Including the Tatsunoko and Capcom vs. games) so here’s the rundown:

Dante (Devil May Cry)
Obviously this guy definitely needs to be in any Capcom vs. franchise, with his badass moves and attitude, Dante will surely be a fan favorite in the epic fighting franchise. And it’s even cool to see Dante juggle an opponent in the air with his pistols.
Give Dante the DMC1 or DMC3 getup and you’re good to go.

Main Character from Monster Hunter
In Japan, Monster Hunter is very popular, same goes in the Philippines. Yet we never see anything MH related in a fighting game, so MvC3 could be it’s very first appearance.
For the costume and weapon, we should let Capcom do the choices.

Phoenix Wright (Ace Attorney)
Who said attorneys are wimps (XD).
Give him an “Objection!” special move and he will the most powerful character in the game, ’nuff said.

Amaterasu (Okami)
Yeah there’s an upcoming sequel on the hit PS2 game, but my pick will be on the older Amaterasu. so far there’s no character in any of the MvC franchise that is a pet (unless if you count the Servbot and Felicia as a pet). Give her the ability to switch weapons (from the solar flared, thunder beads and to the thunder edge) and a super move that uses the Celestial Brush, and you’ll see me playing MvC3 for ages.

X (Megaman X)
Yeah we already have Mega Man in the previous series, but we want the mature version, and there’s already a Zero character in the Capcom Vs. Tatsunoko game, but we still want Mega Man.
Add a move that make him turn into his ultimate armor and the classic mega buster move.

Yukimura Sanada / Masamune Date (Sengoku Basara)
It’s a hard pick on who should be in, so in this case, it’s a draw. Sure there’s a Samurai Warriors version of the two, but the Sengoku Basara version of Capcom is far much cooler, and as a matter of fact, there’s a fighting game for Sengoku Basara in the arcades, so more points for this version over the Koei version. Give them their signature moves for that army destroying mayhem.

Grand Kaiser (Tech Romancer)
Giant robots rule!, and it deserves to be included in the MvC franchise. CvT has two in their roster, so it’s time for MvC to get one. Pit this one against the Sentinel and my bet will still be on Grand Kaiser.

Regina (Dino Crisis)
We have Jill Valentine on MvC2 and Chris Redfield will be debuting on MvC3, but some people forgot that there’s also one survivor game that’s needs a proper debut, and that’s Regina from the Dino Crisis series. she should have her ever trusted tranquilizer gun in her arsenal and some t-rex super move on her list.

Akira Kazama (Rival School)
It’s time to add a female character from the Rival School franchise to MvC3, and it’s a hard decision to pick with Hinata, Tiffany and Akira, but in the end, Akira was one on my top choice.
Give her two versions, the unmasked one and the helmet version.

So there you have it, stay tuned for the second part of the wishlist as we focus on some Marvel characters you wish to be included on Capcom Vs. Marvel 3.

Life after the Blacksword

Published by Chad on December 2nd, 2009 - in Feature

It’s been months since I left Granado Espada, although I already moved on to a better path, I still miss the good old GE days. But if it wasn’t for GE, I won’t be able to meet great friends and to experience one of the great MMOs.

I’ve played Granado Espada for 2 years since April 2007 and started Reimaru Files on late November of 2007 and so far it was all worth the days. From the 2 years, I’ve become a game mentor, a game blogger and then a community crew for Granado Espada and it was a great experience.

So for this post, I would like to thank all the people who’ve become part of this great epic, people who I was able to share in this fantastic experience during my Granado Espada days and up until today.

and Reimaru Files will still continue to grow even after leaving GE, but will still remember those good old days…

Defend your Base!!! (Tower Defense Games)

Published by Chad on August 23rd, 2009 - in Feature, Gaming

Usually when we play video games, our main objective would always be invading an enemy base or eliminating the castle lord or the evil dungeon master. But what if your objective instead is just protect your base from invading monsters? A new kind of twist eh? If you’ve been playing this kind of games, then you probably knew that these are Tower Defense games. Now let’s take a look on how this gaming genre became so popular and how it all began.

About Tower Defense

Tower defense or TD is a subgenre of real-time strategy computer games. The goal is to try to stop enemies from crossing the map by building towers which shoot at them as they pass. Enemies and towers usually have varied abilities and costs. When an enemy is defeated the player earns money or points, which are used to buy or upgrade towers.

The choice and positioning of the towers is the essential strategy of the game. Many games feature enemies that run through a “maze”, which allows the player to strategically place towers for optimal effectiveness. However, some versions of the genre force the user to create the maze out of their own towers. Some versions are a hybrid of these two types, with preset paths that can be modified to some extent by tower placement.

Originally, it was first called Turret defense.

How it all began?

We can say that Tower defense games started its roots in Rampart; a classic strategy arcade game that was release on 1990. The game involved defending a castle by placing cannons, and making repairs between several rounds of attacks.

At the start of the year 2000, tower defense games began to appear as custom or user-created maps in Starcraft, Ages of Empires II and also in Warcraft III. But the first standalone PC tower defense game was Master of Defense, a 3D shareware game that was released on 7 November 2005. It was so popular that it received several awards.

Then, many game developers began designing games using Adobe Flash to create stand-alone game on web browsers, which led to the release of Flash Element Tower Defense in 2007and also Desktop Tower Defense on the same year. Desktop Tower Defense became a hit that it led to the creation of a mobile phone version of the game. Other notable tower defense games that became popular include Protector, Immortal Defense and GemCraft.

In 2008, the tower defense’s big success led to the porting into console gaming such as Defense Grid: The Awakening on the PC and Xbox 360, and PixelJunk Monsters and Savage Moon for the PlayStation 3 Tower defense games have also appeared on handheld game consoles such as Lock’s Quest and Ninjatown on the Nintendo DS, and Crystal Defenders for the iPhone/iPod Touch.

Different types of Tower Defense

Tower Defense games have different types or mode of gameplay, so here are some of the most notable types:

Maze – Waves spawn from one end of a maze then crawl down the path to the other end. Usually the main base is their target (commonly located in the middle of the map). It is your job to make sure the creeps don’t get to the base. This can be done by building defense towers along the path to attack the waves of incoming monsters. Some Maze types can be played solo or with co-op.

Mauls – These games are similar to the traditional maze Tower Defense games. The only difference is the mazes are much wider and you build towers inside the mazes rather that on the edges. This style can be much more strategic. Not only do you need the right combination of towers at the right times. You also need to design an effective maze within the maze.

Tower Wars – Tower wars can be played on either the maze style or the maul style game. They can also be played co-op or solo. The major difference is that the monsters are spawned by the teams to go through the mazes of other teams.

Final Fantasy: My Life as a Dark Lord for the Wiiware

Why is it so darn popular?

There are only two reasons: it’s easy and addictive, all you need is a good strategy and some patience to beat it. And since the genre became so popular, you can play it everywhere, not just in the internet, but also in your phone, your portable game and even in the consoles. Even with a simple gameplay, it’ll take you hours and hours of gameplay to complete it, and with replayable contents, a simple short game will become a full-length epic game. And since you can play it anywhere you go, it’s a good way to kill your boredom and with so many tower games to try, you’ll never get tired of playing it over and over

Final Fantasy Crystal Defenders for the Wiiware and IPhone

So if you haven’t played a single tower defense game yet, what are you waiting for? Just go and search for a tower defense game in the internet and start playing, or you can go look for a TD custom map to play on Warcraft 3 / Or if you’re a TD fan and still looking for new ones, don’t fret ‘coz more TD games are coming to your favorite consoles like Pixel Junk monsters and South Park’s Let’s Go tower defense. So continue enjoying this easy addictive genre.
